What your guest’s phone needs

2 min readUpdated 21 Oct 2026

Your guest needs a phone that takes an eSIM and is not locked to their carrier: recent iPhones, Google Pixel phones and most recent Samsung Galaxy phones do. The page you send has the code to scan and the steps for both kinds of phone.

iPhone and Android

What your guest does

  1. 1
Opens the page on another screen, or on paper

The phone scans the code with its camera, and it cannot scan its own screen. The two values printed beside the code can also be typed in by hand.

  2. 2
    Adds the eSIM

iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service → Add eSIM. Android: Settings → Connections → SIM manager on Samsung, or Network & internet → SIMs on Pixel.

  3. 3
Turns on roaming for that line

Data roaming on for the eSIM line, and that line chosen for mobile data.

Easiest before the trip

Adding the eSIM on Wi-Fi at home is easiest. Data works once the phone is in the destination and roaming is on for that line.
