Countries that ask who holds a number

3 min readUpdated 28 Sep 2026

Some countries register the holder of every phone number by law. For those — and only those — we ask for a short form after you pay. The US, Canada, the UK and many others ask for nothing.

After you payOnly where the law asks

How it goes

  1. 1
Before you buy: the ⓘ on the country’s page

It lists what that country asks — of a person and of a business.

  2. 2
    Pay for the number

It is reserved for you, and My numbers shows Complete the steps.

  3. 3
    Fill in three short screens

About you · your address · the documents the country names.

  4. 4
    The operator checks it

We email you. The number starts working once the operator accepts it.

When a country gives numbers only to businesses

Some countries give a number only to a business, or only to a person. If that isn’t you, the number’s page offers Give it back and refund me.

Your files

They are encrypted on our server and sent to the operator for the check. Send only what the country’s list names — never a card number or a password.
